Visual Storytelling Posters: Emotion Through Imagery

This project is an academic design assignment focused on visual storytelling through image manipulation and graphic elements. The objective was to source images from the internet and transform them into expressive poster compositions by adding visual elements, typography, and graphic treatments that convey emotions, narratives, and mood. The emphasis of this assignment was not on image creation, but on concept development, storytelling, and visual communication.

Each poster explores a different emotional or narrative direction—ranging from joy and playfulness to empathy, imagination, and wonder. By carefully selecting imagery and enhancing it with lines, overlays, shapes, and typographic accents, I aimed to give static images a stronger voice and purpose. Elements such as dotted outlines, illustrated strokes, symbolic icons, and expressive fonts were used to guide the viewer’s attention and create a sense of motion and depth.

The food and beverage posters focus on fun, indulgence, and sensory delight through warm color palettes, soft textures, and playful typography. In contrast, the social impact poster uses gentle tones and illustrative cues to evoke care, hope, and emotional warmth. Conceptual posters experiment with surreal themes and imaginative storytelling, blending realistic imagery with abstract or whimsical graphic elements to spark curiosity and emotional engagement.

Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop were used together to layer visuals, refine compositions, and integrate typography seamlessly with imagery. This assignment helped strengthen my understanding of visual hierarchy, emotional design, composition, and narrative building, while also improving my ability to enhance existing images through thoughtful design interventions.

Overall, this project demonstrates my approach to turning sourced imagery into meaningful visual stories—using design as a tool to communicate emotion, intent, and message beyond words.
